Centre of Excellence
- Location - Chartwell
- Council - Hamilton City
- Number - 755/2014
The new Centre of Excellence (370m2) is very much a building which acknowledges the historic fabric of it’s past with a clear emphasis of being a building of its time. The building is nestled below the Science block, integrated by semi enclosed pathways and covered multi-level overhead canopies. The dominant formal roof line makes a nod to the folding angular forms of the expansive Chapel but yet softened by the translucency of the glazed facade. The materiality of the building is very much in keeping with the school’s existing palette of extensive brickwork and oversized glazing units. Externally the building then works to integrate into the field and it’s immediate surroundings by way of oversized planter boxes, outdoor seating and covered and uncovered terraces looking north out towards the 1st XI cricket pitch, Student Centre and Gymnasium beyond.
New Building and School are Restricted Discretionary Activities in regard to Design and Layout, and Character and Amenity.
Consent for this Centre of Excellence (370m2) was granted after finalizing the Water Impact Assessment under the Proposed District Plan.
